My name’s Suzanne. I work as an animator in Ottawa, Canada. In my spare time, usually in the evenings, I draw these little blobs and send them out into cyberspace. During the day, at work or wherever I’ll carry some scraps of paper around and scribble down the stuff that becomes a gloomie.
Gloomies started out as a bunch of recurring thoughts bumping around in my head that I’d decide were too rude, sarcastic or outrageous to say out loud. In college, I scribbled the first little blob in the corner of some art assignment I was in the middle of and gave him some words. It was so nice and therapeutic to get a random thought out of my head and onto the paper that I finished my assignment and eventually, college.
I didn’t make another blob until about two years later. I was working in an animation studio, at a drawing desk, and most of my co-workers would fill their desk space with funny drawings and sayings they’d whip off between actual work. I started drawing blobs again, and taping them up on my desk to add to the hilarious work environment. Gloomies was born! With some encouragement, I decided to move the gloomies off my desk and onto the internet in 2006.
Since then I’ve dedicated more and more of my brain space to the little guys, and now I’ve almost completely destroyed my internal filter (at least among my friends) in search of that next gloomie.
There are two types of gloomies, the Roundies and the Cubies. Roundies are generally more enthusiastic characters and Cubies tend to be more sarcastic.
Thanks for checking in on the site, and enjoy!
