2011 and some new Gloomie plans!

Hello all! Happy New Year, and I hope everyone had a great holiday season!

Everyone, gather ’round. I have big plans for this year, for Gloomies, so watch out! Here comes 2011!

First of all, I’d like to introduce our new Newsletter! You should see a link close to the bottom of the page that allows you to sign up for this. We aren’t going to share or sell your e-mail address, or anything like that, so don’t worry. This is so I can put together a mailing list of super gloomie-enthusiasts. With a newsletter subscription, each and every month we will send you all of the Gloomies from that month in one batch in case you didn’t get a chance to check them all, plus there will be one bonus gloomie I’ll make special for the mailing list that won’t be on the regular site! So, check that out, the first newsletter (for the month of January) will be out at the beginning of February.

We have a new search function on the site, thanks to Google, and it works a whole lot better than the old one did. Play around and see what come up, when you type in some of your favourite words.

We’re also experimenting with some advertising; you’ll notice the one big ad banner split into two smaller ones. We want to keep this as unobtrusive as possible, so send us an e-mail if you have any concern with the direction we are taking (we’re making this for you to enjoy anyways).

So, there’s some super-cool, awesome and new things coming! I can’t wait!

Happy Turkey Time!

Hey, everyone!

I wanted to wish everyone a late Happy Canadian Thanksgiving, and an early Happy American Thanksgiving, and a happy time to everyone, wherever you happen to find yourself. I had a very nice three-day weekend and was back at work today.

Ryan and I visited my parents on Saturday night and his parents on Sunday night, so, that was a lot of driving for me. Two hours on Saturday, two on Sunday, and four hours home on Monday. It’s a good thing my husband is good company in the car.

It was worth it because we got two turkey dinners, and two pumpkin pies, and all the other trimmings we’ve come to look forward to. Also, we got to spend time with a lot of family members we both love. I hope everyone had a chance to be thankful for the people they love. I am very thankful for the opportunity Ryan and I had to spend time with our family. We almost didn’t get a rental car for the journey, but one became available late on Saturday morning. There’s nothing like a dose of panic and uncertainty that works out for the best. It made relaxing with the family even better. (And the turkey taste sweeter!)

I’m also thankful for all my readers, so here’s a big turkey-fueled shout out, to all my readers, old and new. Thanks for your support!

Happy Thanksgiving!

-Suzanne

Going to the FanExpo in Toronto this weekend!

Alright, it’s time for my annual convention appearance! This year I’ve got new buttons! So, if you’re coming out to the FanExpo again, look forward to those. I’ve also got some of last year’s t-shirts, and my bread and butter: hilarious prints!
I’m heading out the door in about twenty minutes to meet up with the car pool and we’re going down to Toronto tonight. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and introducing new people to my gloomies! I also love to hear from people who already check my site, so stop by and say hi if you’re a fan and you’re going to be at the convention.

I’m super excited, I hope I’ve packed everything! Better go check again,

See ya,
-Suzanne

Going to the Cottage!

Hey internet!

I’m off to my parents’ cottage for my annual week of awesome cottage time. This year it’s doubly awesome, since it’s the first year my in-laws also have a cottage. So Ryan and I are splitting our time for relaxing in to different cottage environments. Down time to the max!

Anyway, just thought I’d let everyone know where I am for the week since I won’t be posting gloomies while I’m away and I feel bad about not letting you guys know where I was while I was on my honeymoon and during the week before the wedding. There was a lot going on, but I was really touched by the e-mails asking if I was okay, or trapped in some way so that I couldn’t reach my computer.

Also, it’s about convention time in Toronto again, and I will be at the FanExpo like usual. I’ll be using some of the cottage time to go through this year’s gloomies to pick new comics to make into high quality prints, available for sale! Also, everyone keep your fingers crossed for buttons this year. I’ll keep you guys updated on the button situation.

Everyone have a great long weekend, and enjoy summer!
See you in a week,
-Suzanne

I Got Married!

Hello everyone!

I am married now! One month and one day ago Ryan and I got married. It went beautifully. We were married outside, and the weather was very sunny, even after it was threatening to rain for five days. The theme was red roses, so that looked great, and the whole thing was at an old ski lodge that’s been turned into a banquet hall. Here are some pictures of us looking super-happy:

We totally just got married.

Here we are looking all seriously in love.

A nice close up

Our first dance, rocking out, classy-wise.

And here is the cake, it was delicious and I was mildly obsessed over getting the design a certain way. I even made stencils of roses and swirls for the baker to put on the icing in the black. I recommend red velvet as a flavour of cake for everyone to try, but don’t get the red velvet cupcakes at Starbucks, they are disappointing. Which is weird because I usually love Starbucks. Anyway:

Our black and white red velvet wedding cake!

For our honeymoon, we went to Sandals, Montego Bay in Jamaica. We were naively hoping to get some perks since it was our honeymoon. But it was practically everyone’s honeymoon at the resort. It was a big party of everyone that had gotten married on Saturday. So, June in Jamaica has a definite “honeymoon” vibe. So, watch out…We had a great time. Aside from spending the majority of our time at the pool bar, we also got out of the resort to go and swim with a dolphin at Dolphin Cove. While we were there, they also let us pet a shark and a stingray.

The shark's name was Chewy.

Well, hopefully you guys will enjoy an increase in the number of gloomies I get posted now that I’m not doing wedding-related art and crafts all the time. It is the summer though, and I plan on going to my cottage this weekend. Other weekends too… so I’ll try and be funny as often as I can. Oh, and if you’ve been on the edge of your seats, my gum surgery seems to have gone just fine.

Stay cool,
Suzanne
